I took a shed apart yesterday. It was an old one in the drive. Luckily it had screws not rivets. It came apart easily. It is now ready to go to the tip. The tip is really a place to dump rubbish. The act of depositing the unwanted waste involves a tipping motion. So we call it the tip. A proper noun. Take it to tip would be more accurate. "The" is a definite article referring to a specific person, place or thing. It is also comparative or an adverb if it occurs before a verb. The run, not that run! A lot of foreigners use 'the' wrong.
